Find the UPC case law that fits your case.

Describe the facts in your own words or upload a brief. patentino finds the relevant decisions of the Unified Patent Court, checks them against your case with AI and backs every result with a quote from the decision.

patentino is semantic research in UPC case law for patent attorneys, patent litigators and in-house IP teams.

  • Verbatim-checked quotes with paragraph number
  • Across languages
  • Processing exclusively in the EU
Illustration with fictitious sample data – the parties, quote and paragraph number are invented.

How it works

From the facts to a cited authority

  1. 1

Describe the case or upload a brief

A few sentences in your own words are enough. With a brief, patentino identifies the legal issues itself.

  2. 2

    Search and review

Semantic and full-text search run together. The AI checks the top results against your case and rates them from 1 to 10 – with reasons.

  3. 3

    Cite and carry on

Every result with a quote, paragraph number and a jump to the passage in the PDF. Then assign it to a matter, export it or ask a follow-up in the chat.

How we verify quotes

Relevance from 1 to 10

A language model reads the legal issues decided by the court and the best-matching passages and gives reasons for its rating. For 7 or more it has to name a matching issue the court actually decided – otherwise patentino caps the rating at 6.

Matching against the original text

patentino looks for the AI's quote in the stored decision text (ignoring case, punctuation and whitespace). Only if it is found there is it marked as verbatim-checked; otherwise it carries a note to check it in the PDF.

What the check does not do

The check confirms the wording, not the legal assessment. The rating, its reasons and whether a quote reflects the court's view or a party's submission are AI assessments and can be wrong. The version published by the court remains authoritative.

Features

Built for the way patent practitioners work

Research with AI review

Results with a relevance rating, reasons and a checked quote. Filters for division, type of proceedings, language, period, legal provision or headnote; AI-labelled summary and similar decisions at the click of a button.

Document mode

Upload a brief as PDF or Word: patentino identifies the legal issues and shows the results for each one. The file is only read, not stored.

Chat with sources

Ask questions straight from the search bar or about a specific decision. The assistant reads the relevant decisions and cites its sources.

Matters, saved items, export

Organise results with notes by matter, reopen earlier research from your history, export to Word, PDF or ZIP and share within your firm.

Appeal status at a glance

A notice when the Court of Appeal has set aside, varied or upheld a decision – determined automatically, with a link to the appeal decision. Related proceedings are shown, parallel ones grouped.

Across languages, in English and German

Questions in English, German, French, Italian or Dutch, among others, find decisions in all languages of the proceedings; quotes from other languages come with a labelled translation. The interface is available in English and German, on your smartphone too.

Integrations

In your AI tools, too

patentino is also available as an MCP server (Model Context Protocol) – for Claude, Langdock, Copilot Studio and every AI application that supports MCP over Streamable HTTP.

Your AI tool can then search case law, retrieve decisions, read passages with paragraph numbers and check the course of proceedings. In thorough mode, the same AI review runs as in the web app.

Security & data protection

Built for the requirements of law firms.

Processing exclusively in the EU

Hosted in AWS data centres in Frankfurt (eu-central-1). AI processing runs on Amazon Bedrock in EU regions only. Under the AWS terms for Amazon Bedrock, inputs and outputs are not used to train AI models and are not shared with model providers.

Layered encryption

Transport via TLS 1.2+. Saved research and notes are additionally encrypted at application level with AES-256-GCM – with a separate key per user, managed in AWS KMS in Frankfurt. Database, backups and documents are encrypted at rest.

Client confidentiality

We conclude a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR and a confidentiality undertaking under section 43e BRAO / section 39c PAO (cf. section 203 German Criminal Code) with every firm.

Strict need-to-know access

Administrators – including us as the operator – see no search content, only usage figures. Sharing only within your own firm, and an audit log of sign-ins and administrative actions. Accounts by invitation only; two-factor sign-in (authenticator app) is mandatory for administrators and the default for firm teams.

Deletion policy

Saved research is deleted automatically after a set period (180 days by default, configurable per firm) and can be deleted by you at any time. When an account is deleted, its user key is destroyed (crypto-shredding). Backups are deleted after 30 days; logs contain no search content.

Certified infrastructure

The AWS infrastructure on which patentino runs is certified or attested under ISO/IEC 27001, SOC 2 and BSI C5, among others. These attestations relate to AWS, not to patentino itself.

in preparation Single sign-on (e.g. Microsoft Entra ID), external penetration test, information security management system based on ISO/IEC 27001.

An anonymised description is enough for a search – client names and other personal data are not needed. We are happy to send you our security overview (TOMs) – request it via the form. Details in our privacy policy.

“I am building patentino so that finding the right UPC decision starts with the facts – not with the right combination of keywords. patentino is developed in Berlin; feedback from practitioners is very welcome.”

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can't find your question? Write to us using the request form.

Which decisions does patentino search?
patentino covers decisions of the Unified Patent Court from the Court of First Instance (local, regional and central divisions) and the Court of Appeal, both decisions and orders. The collection is continuously expanding. Known decisions that are not yet searchable are shown in a separate list – with a link to the court's official page.
What does patentino add to the search on the UPC website?
You search with the facts of your case instead of the right keyword combination, across all languages of the proceedings, and get checked results with reasons instead of a list to work through yourself. The court's website remains the official source: patentino links every decision to its official page.
Does patentino replace my own review?
No. patentino is a research tool and does not provide legal advice. AI assessments are labelled as such and may be wrong – the legal analysis and the review of the original decision remain with you.
Where is my data processed?
Exclusively in the EU. The application, database and documents run on Amazon Web Services in Frankfurt (eu-central-1). AI processing – analysing your query, relevance review, chat, embeddings and reranking – runs on Amazon Bedrock in EU regions only. Under the AWS service terms, your input is not used to train models. Details in our privacy policy.
Is patentino GDPR-compliant?
We have designed patentino according to GDPR principles (privacy by design): processing exclusively in the EU, application-level encryption with a key per user, need-to-know access and a deletion policy with automatic retention periods. Whether its use is permissible in your firm is for you to assess as part of your own data protection responsibilities – we provide the data processing agreement, the confidentiality undertaking and our TOMs for this.
